Waihou River - Waikato Regional Council

Scenario Builder for the Waikato Region

The Freshwater Scenario Builder for the Waikato Region uses more detailed land use information available for the Waikato region so that scenarios more specific to the region can be modelled. There are two WebApps: Scenario Builder for Waikato Rivers and Scenario Builder for Waikato Harbours.

You can use the Scenario Builder for the Waikato Region WebApps to:

  • Visualise the current and reference state of water quality (nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations and estimated periphyton biomass) at 119 monitored and 4 modelled river sites in the Waikato region.
  • View estimates of current nitrogen and phosphorus loads from rivers and streams to selected harbours in the region
  • See the composition of land use in the catchment and the estimated relative contribution of different land uses to contaminant loads
  • Model catchment management scenarios of land mitigation or land use change (or combinations of both) to predict how reducing contaminant losses and/or changing land use will affect the water quality in a river or the nutrient load to a harbour.
